Current Research interests High intensity short pulse laser-plasma interactions and its applications in fast ignition for inertial fusion energy and laser plasma based accelerator for energetic electrons and ions production. Specifically, I am interested in the study of energy coupling efficiency. energetic electron beam transport in dense plasma, including target heating and high energy proton beam production using various available lasers, PIC and hybrid PIC codes.

Dr. Simon Bott
Position: Assistant Project Scientist Email : sbott@ucsd.edu
Phone: (858) 822-3828 Fax: (858) 534 7716
Current Research interests My research interests centre around the investigation of wire arrays z-pinches and their application in the development of Inertial Confinement Fusion (ICF) and Inertial Fusion Energy (IFE). Characterisation of the various stages of wire arrays is vital to the continued development of this approach, and my specific interest lies in the early time evolution of the plasma structure which then drives the high x-ray yield implosion phase. The same systems which are of interest for ICF can also be used address basic plasma physics in the High Energy Density (HED) regime and to experimentally simulate astrophysical phenomena in the laboratory.

Current Research interests High intensity laser-plasma interactions for the fast ignition laser fusion. I am especially interested in the energetic electron generation and energy transport in solid and high dense plasma because they directly relate to the heating efficiency in the fast ignition scheme. In addition, I take interests in electron beam control and high-energy particle generation as applications of high energy density physics.
